About GCP

Creating the conditions for sovereign climate action.

Government Climate Partners was founded on a simple observation: many states hold high climate ambitions and considerable natural assets, yet face an international ecosystem that is fragmented, highly technical and difficult to navigate.

Why GCP was created

Between certification standards, climate finance mechanisms, specialist developers and institutional requirements, public authorities must engage with a wide range of counterparts. GCP was created to offer a single, clear point of entry, aligned with the interests of the state.

Sovereign climate leadership

We regard climate action as an attribute of sovereignty. Natural resources, national policy direction and development trade-offs belong to states. Our work is to reinforce that position, never to dilute it.

A facilitator's role

GCP is not a technical developer, a consultancy delivering field studies, or an investor. We structure the dialogue, identify the relevant capabilities and organise cooperation between stakeholders within a framework set by the state.

An international approach

We work in the language of international institutions, public administrations and climate finance, in both French and English, and within existing multilateral frameworks.

Rooted in Africa

Africa is central to our activity, given the richness of its ecosystems and the scale of the continent's climate opportunity, without confining our mandate to a single region of the world.

Preserving ecosystems while generating revenues that fund major local projects: this is the very essence of our work. We do not replace states or technical developers — we create the conditions for them to work effectively together.
